Interesting couple three of weeks. They have been a bit of a challenge, well, challenging opportunities, given what has been happening at my school site as well as the expected increase in our evening class requirements. Ups and downs, as I am sure every starting teacher, or student teacher, has experienced are to be expected, I have no doubt. At any rate, this last week, and the half before it, I was able to a great many lessons that I was able to teach in class. Most went well, I was happy with the flow, interactions, and excitement of the students, and one made me realize the benefit of the 'less is more' we have been hearing about in classes.
One great thing, something I am actually pretty proud of, is the use of Weebly in our classrooms. My co-operating teacher, Ricky Medina, asked me to come up with a way for the students to have individualized personal websites using google sites. After attempting to actually use google sites to set one up for myself, I looked for alternatives and ended up using Weebly. It was, essentially, a three lesson unveiling where the students went through the process of constructing their own websites based on the requests of some of the teachers. It was quite a lot of work ,for both the students as well as myself but, they students were engaged, enthusiastic, and serious about producing a site, something that is actually on the internet, that they could take ownership of. During the following lessons I attempted to weave my lesson plan assignments into this Weebly.
Most of the students really enjoyed, taking pride in, making a site that allowed them to reflect their work (while still being appropriate for school) and Ricky mentioned that he appreciated my working on this to bring it to both the students and the school as this wasn't something that they were currently using.
